Vinpocetine (C22H26N2O2) is a synthetic nootropic that derives its structure from nature’s periwinkle plant!

Is this nootropic worth the try?  Let’s take a look…

What Is Vinpocetine?

Vinpocetine is a chemically manufactured nootropic that came into being from the alkaloid Vincamine.

Vincamine is found in the leaves of the Periwinkle plant, also known as Vinca Minor or Lesser Periwinkle.

Due to its partial plant extract, it won’t be unfair to call it ‘biosynthetic’.

It was marketed and sold by the name of Cavinton in Hungary circa the late 1970s – where it was employed for the use of Dementia and memory disorders.

It is also recommended by physicians to Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s patients.

How Does Vinpocetine Work?

Vinpocetine is said to improve cerebral blood flow – thus renewing and replenishing the nutrient supply at faster intervals.

It is also declared as a neuroprotective agent – hence recommended for memory disorders to protect the memory-forming neurons from unwarranted damage.

The neuroprotective capacity is because of the antioxidant property that it possesses.

Vinpocetine efficiently increases nutrient absorption in the brain as well!

Backing Claims With Scientific Knowledge – Proof That Vinpocetine Actually Works!

science3
A study conducted amongst the Nigerian population revealed that doses of Vinpocetine significantly improved cognition amongst the participants.

The contrasting control group happened to perform poorly at the ‘short blessed test’.

Not only did the trial group execute better memory formation but also showed improvement in focusing abilities. (1

Vinpocetine also has anti-inflammatory action.

For this purpose, it has been employed to treat not only memory debilitating diseases but also sclerosis and lupus.

Thus proving Vinpocetine a better long-term nootropic agent than steroids. (2

Its anti-inflammatory properties are exhibited well in ischemic reperfusion injuries, where it acts as a protective agent against excessive damage when the brain shows signs of alarmingly decreased blood flow. (3)

Vinpocetine’s role in boosting memory performance is well executed in several studies. (4

Even in healthy individuals! (5)

What Is The Proper Dosage Of Vinpocetine?

There is a lot of debate regarding the dosage of Vinpocetine.

In general, 10-60 mg is the recommended dose, but it varies according to conditions.

In healthy individuals who seek an extra boost of cognition, 40 mg serves well enough.

But for those struggling with a certain memory disorder, the dose can be topped up – but make sure to consult your physician first!

You are supposed to administer Vinpocetine 3x a day – ingesting about 10 mg in each slot.

The absorption of Vinpocetine is increased when taken with meals, especially fatty substances like oils.

Coconut or olive oil being the best candidates.

Taking it during the day proves to be more beneficial – since its half-life Immunity is only 2-3 hours.

Vinpocetine Review by Another Nootropic User from The Reddit Fam’!

Vinpocetine was the first nootropic I ever tried, and probably the one I’ve taken for the longest duration without stopping.

The first time was a vinpocetine nasal spray.  I took it just before an extremely boring thermal mechanics course.  The experience still seems vivid today, even though it was a long time ago.

For once my note taking could keep up with the professor’s talking.  I felt like everything had slowed down a bit.

Afterward, I looked at my notes and saw that I’d turned a dry triple point diagram into some kind of impressionistic art piece.

That was the first time, but vinpocetine never hit me that hard again.  I took the little capsules for six or seven years, but couldn’t say if they did anything.

After I stopped there didn’t seem to be any change either.

It might need to be in liquid form or maybe sublingual to do anything, and even then the effects seem mild.

Vinpocetine (periwinkle / Vinca Major) as a Nootropic… My Final Thoughts!

Vinpocetine is a typical example of where nature meets science.

This biosynthetic nootropic has served its purpose well since the late 1970s and is now recognized as a potent brain-enhancing supplement.

When used within recommended doses, it can help you sharpen your memory and performance!

For hard-working students and struggling academics who really need to top up on their concentration levels for the exam season, pairing this baby with a racetam will do the trick!

However, its long-term use according to Reddit users is said to be a ‘die-off’ – as if it loses its potency with continuous use.

Nevertheless, it is still worth a try!

It’s Very Affordable!

Best of all, our recommended vinpocetine supplement is very affordable!
